New York — Swavelle/Mill Creek Fabrics Inc. is taking its outdoor business to the next level.
The more than 35-year-old home textiles company has agreed to acquire the Al Fresco Functional Fabrics division of outdoor and performance fabrics company Altizer & Co. Decorative Textiles.
“We are very excited for this opportunity to significantly grow our outdoor fabric business,” said Jeff Thomases, CEO of Swavelle. “The inclusion of Al Fresco Fabrics will greatly expand our performance fabric offerings to the furniture, wholesale, retail, and hospitality trades.”
Altizer & Co. Decorative Textiles was founded by Howard Altizer in 1980 as a designer and marketer of high quality fabrics to all segments of the home furnishings marketplace.
In 2003, Altizer and current president Todd Nifong identified a need for more versatile decorative fabrics for use indoors and outside. They established the Al Fresco Functional Fabrics division, and upon rapid growth, consolidated its focus in 2008 on the outdoor performance marketplace.
“Al Fresco Fabrics has a history of focusing on design, quality, and service as well as strong customer relationships,” Nifong noted. “We are honored to be moving forward as part of a company that embraces those same values. This opportunity will allow Al Fresco Functional Fabrics to continue its growth in all marketplaces while increasing efficiencies across all aspects of our business model.”
Al Fresco Fabrics will operate as a subsidiary of Swavelle, and will continue to be led by Nifong. Its current operations will be integrated into Swavelle’s New York and South Carolina facilities.
